Strengthening Steel Decarbonization Models at Heriot-Watt

Cristian Barón has recently returned to ECO2Lab after a highly productive three-month research stay at Heriot-Watt University. Working alongside Mijndert Van der Spek and the Research Center for Carbon Solutions (RCCS), Cristian focused on integrating advanced techno-economic and global uncertainty analyses into his doctoral research.

The stay was centered on making the decarbonization models for BF-BOF furnaces more robust. By applying the RCCS group’s expertise in CCUS and industrial integration, Cristian has added a crucial layer of reliability to the different low-carbon pathways analyzed in his thesis.

This collaboration not only enhances the technical quality of our current models but also strengthens the ties between ECO2Lab and international leaders in carbon solutions.

Our sincere thanks to Mijndert and the whole RCCS team for their invaluable guidance and hospitality.
