WG2 TrANsMIT Symposium Highlights Cutting-Edge CCUS Modelling

The WG2 TrANsMIT Symposium on Modelling Approaches for CCUS successfully brought together international researchers and personal in training to discuss the latest advancements in Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS).

The online event was organized and led by Dr. Manuel Bailera, leader of WG2 and a researcher at ECO2Lab. Held under the umbrella of the COST Action CA21127 (TrANsMITTechno-economic analysis of carbon mitigation technologies), the symposium served as a collaborative hub for presenting state-of-the-art simulations, techno-economic models, and digital tools driving global decarbonization efforts.

En Route to Warsaw: The Top 3 Presentations

A key highlight of the symposium was the competitive selection of outstanding research works. The top three presentations have been officially awarded an exclusive invitation to participate and showcase their findings at the Final TrANsMIT Conference, scheduled to take place on September 17-18 in Warsaw, Poland.

The selected researchers and their topics include:

  • “Multiphysics Modelling of CO2 Electroreduction to Formate as a Digital Tool for Carbon Utilization” Presented by: Cristina González-Fernández (Universidad de Cantabria, Spain).
  • “Allam Cycle Modeling Utilizing CoolProp and Excel” Presented by: Ameer Al-Dafaie (Cranfield University, United Kingdom).
  • “Techno-Economic Analysis of Forest-Based e-Fuel Production Process Pathways” Presented by: João Roberto F. S. (Universidade de Coimbra, Portugal).

The insights shared during this symposium underscore the vital role that rigorous mathematical, economic, and environmental modeling play in scaling up CCUS technologies. The entire TrANsMIT community extends its warmest congratulations to the selected speakers and expresses its gratitude to Dr. Bailera for his leadership in directing this successful event.
