Researcher and Professor of Thermal Engines and Machines at the University of Zaragoza, Eva Mª Llera Sastresa, is one of the prominent faces in the 2026 edition of the urban campaign “Soy Científica. Vivo en tu barrio”, promoted by the Scientific Culture Unit (UCC) of Unizar to mark February 11th (International Day of Women and Girls in Science).
With a degree in Chemistry and a specialization in the energy sector, Eva Llera carries out her work at the Energy and CO2 Group. Through the advertising panels scattered across Zaragoza, she brings her two main lines of work closer to the public: CO2 reduction and capture in industry, and the analysis of the socioeconomic impacts of sustainability. Her scientific vision defends that the urgent decarbonization needed to tackle climate change must always go hand in hand with a just and inclusive transition “that leaves no one behind.”
Vocation, role models, and work-life balance
In her campaign profile, Llera recalls how her vocation was born from childhood curiosity, spending hours playing with Quimicefa (a popular chemistry set) and reading encyclopedias as if she were a “detective” on the trail of knowledge.
In addition to highlighting her technical work in a historically male-dominated sector like energy, Eva uses this platform to reflect on women in the research field. Llera emphasizes the need to improve support structures for family work-life balance and encourages her female colleagues and future generations to fight the all-too-common ‘imposter syndrome’: “Let us never forget that women are capable, valuable, and fully deserving of our achievements,” states the researcher.
Citizens can now come across Eva Llera’s image and work on the streets of their own neighborhoods. Her full interview and career details are available on the official campaign portal: ucc.unizar.es/11f/2026/eva-m-llera-sastresa.
