The Spanish State Research Agency (AEI), together with the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Ramón y Cajal Programme with an institutional event that recognized the researchers who have been part of this prestigious initiative within the Spanish scientific system. During the ceremony, all Ramón y Cajal fellows received a commemorative badge in appreciation of their contribution to advancing knowledge, innovation, and research. From ECO2Lab, María Pilar Lisbona, recipient of the Ramón y Cajal Fellowship in 2019, and Manuel Bailera, awarded in the 2023 call, were among those recognized for their contributions.
Since its launch in 2000, the Ramón y Cajal Programme has become one of the most prestigious and competitive instruments in national science policy, aimed at attracting and retaining outstanding research talent. Over the past 25 years, it has played a decisive role in strengthening Spain’s research community and promoting excellence across universities and public research institutions.
This year’s call achieved record funding to support 494 postdoctoral research contracts, bringing the total public investment since the programme’s inception to €1.746 billion, co-financed by the European Social Fund and the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
The AEI has also launched a dedicated website to commemorate the programme’s 25th anniversary, where beneficiaries can request their badge and stay informed about related activities.
