FRANCISCO JAVIER ROYO is Associate Professor of Energy Systems in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Universidad de Zaragoza (Spain). His research has focused extensively on biomass combustion and co-combustion, combining both theoretical and experimental approaches. He has participated in nearly 60 research projects and contracts—both public and private—and has co-authored more than 80 contributions to international journals and conferences. His current work centers on the analysis of ash behavior from the combustion of non-conventional residual biomasses (including sintering and deposition phenomena), as well as on international cooperation projects related to biomass use in low- and middle-income countries.

Main research interests: Bioenergy, Biomass, Non-conventional biomass, Ash behavior prediction, Sintering and deposition mechanisms, Emerging markets for biomass utilization
