JAVIER FERNÁNDEZ is Associate Professor of Physical Chemistry at Universidad de Zaragoza. Although the beginning of his research career was related to the Thermodynamics of liquid mixtures of organic compounds at atmospheric pressure, later he moved to Thermodynamics related to anthropogenic CO2 and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology. Over the past 15 years he has been dedicated to the study of the influence of the presence of impurities in the behaviour of anthropogenic CO2, both on the physico-chemical properties of the plume and on the operational parameters of CCS technology, with the aim of assessing the feasibility of co-capturing CO2 + impurities while avoiding stream purification. He has participated in 30 research projects, and co-authored more than 40 contributions to international journals and conferences.

Main interests: Carbon capture and storage, CO2 and impurities co-capture.
