Sara Pascual Sevilla has been recognized for her Bachelor’s Thesis titled “Design Project of a Carbon Capture Pilot Plant Integrated with a Biomass Combustion Boiler”, supervised by Prof. Pilar Lisbona. The award was granted by the Spanish Technological CO₂ Platform (PTECO2) and presented by Mª Ángeles Ferré, representative of the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI).
The study focused on the design of a Calcium Looping carbon capture pilot plant to be integrated into a livestock waste treatment facility in the province of Soria (Spain). The proposed system uses biogas from the anaerobic digestion of livestock waste to supply the heat required for the calcination reaction, while biomass combustion during the carbonation step provides the additional thermal energy needed to meet the plant’s overall demand.
