DEC-I&S project aims to design, model and quantify efficiency, economic feasibility and environmental impact of two novel concepts of low-emission BF-BOF process. The research will take advantage of the existing synergies with different emerging technologies (e-hydrogen, CO2 capture, Power-to-Gas and Top Gas Recycling) to reduce the carbon capture penalties and provide an optimal integration of green energies in the steel industry. Two different systems will be integrated and simulated in Aspen Plus®: the Calcium-Looping carbon capture technology and the direct injection of green hydrogen into BF. A global analysis will be performed for the proposed concepts from technical, technoeconomic, environmental and socioeconomic points of view to generate relevant conclusions for the industrial and social stakeholders.
