Senior researcher (2026)

DARIA KATLA is a researcher at the Department of Power Engineering and Turbomachinery at the Silesian University of Technology in Poland. She is currently a visiting researcher at the University of Zaragoza through the Polish National Science Centre’s NCN MINIATURA grant. The research stay aims to support the development of future research proposals on dual-functional materials (DFMs) for integrated CO2 capture and methanation, combining experimental work with process modeling and evaluation through Techno-Economic Analysis (TEA) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).

She is currently involved in several international research projects, including Net-Zero Poland, funded by the Quadrature Climate Foundation, and COST Action TrANsMIT (Techno-economic analysis of carbon mitigation technologies), supported by Horizon Europe. Within TrANsMIT, she serves as vice-leader of Working Group 3 (Techno-Economic Analysis) and as a Grant Awarding Coordinator, contributing to research coordination and collaboration across multiple institutions.

Dr Katla obtained her PhD in Environmental Engineering, Mining and Energy from the Silesian University of Technology in 2023. She previously earned an MSc in Mechanical Engineering in 2019 and a BSc in Power Engineering in 2018 from the same institution. Her doctoral and subsequent research focus on the assessment Synthetic Natural Gas (SNG) production technologies based on biomass gasification and electrolysis technologies. Her work has been recognized with the START Scholarship 2024 awarded by the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP).

Main research interests: process modeling and simulation, Techno-Economic Analysis (TEA), Carbon capture and utilisation (CCU), CO2 methanation, Power-to-X (PtX), alternative fuel production.
