The University of Zaragoza will host its University Development Cooperation Day on 19 June 2026 in the Pilar Sinués Hall, Paraninfo Building. The event will bring together academics, practitioners and cooperation experts to discuss the present and future of university engagement in international development.
The programme will open at 10:30 a.m. with welcoming remarks from Vice-Rector for Internationalization and Cooperation Sergio Salinas and Juan Antonio Vallés, Director of the Secretariat for Development Cooperation and Global University Cooperation. This will be followed by a keynote lecture by Ricardo Álvarez, President of the Aragonese Federation for Solidarity (FAS), entitled “University Cooperation for Development: Present and Future.”
Among the featured speakers, Javier Royo, researcher at ECO2Lab, will present “From Waste to Resources: Promoting Energy Resilience in Cuba” during the second session of short presentations. His contribution will showcase how innovative resource recovery and sustainable energy solutions can strengthen resilience and support local development in vulnerable communities.
The programme also includes presentations on international cooperation in geography, health sciences, environmental conservation, social engagement, engineering, language education and global citizenship initiatives. The day will conclude with an exchange of ideas on the University of Zaragoza’s Development Cooperation Plan within its 2026–2030 Strategic Plan.
